First Sgt. Jimmy D. Ferriss, first sergeant of Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, performs roll call during a memorial ceremony honoring the life of Sgt. Joe L. Wrightsman at Patrol Base Jaker, Afghanistan, July 30. Ferriss called out Wrightsman’s name during roll call only to be answered by crushing silence - a reminder of the loss. Wrightsman died supporting combat operations July 18.
