161230-N-AX638-050 NORFOLK (Dec. 30, 2016) The guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94) passes the Ticonderoga Class guided missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72) as it arrives at Naval Station Norfolk. Nitze, part of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, conducted a seven-month combat deployment to the U.S. 5th and 6th fleet areas of operation in support Operation Inherent Resolve, maritime security operations and theatre security cooperation efforts.
