Pfc. Robert Burns, 19, a dog handler from Phoenix, uses whistle commands to direct his improvised explosive device detection dog to search for a training aid containing homemade explosive residue during Enhanced Mojave Viper. Dog Handlers with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion participated in a three-day exercise, putting their dogs in different situations and environments to help prepare them for a deployment to Afghanistan. Enhanced Mojave Viper is the Marine Corps’ desert warfare training program used to prepare Marines for tours in Afghanistan.
