A Navy oil skimmer is loaded onto a barge for deployment to the coastal areas near Mississippi. Naval Sea Systems Command’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving deployed more than 85 truckloads of containment boom and skimming systems to support the oil spill resulting from the April 20 explosion and fire on the drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico. SUPSALV and other Navy commands including Naval Support Activity Washington, provided this support in accordance with an Inter-Agency-Agreement for mutual oil-spill assistance between the Coast Guard and the Navy.
