Soldiers of the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) jump from the high dive to simulate abandon ship drills at the Reconnaissance Swim Screener course during Exercise Iron Fist 2017, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Feb. 6, 2017. The course was held to provide the JGSDF soldiers with knowledge of U.S. Marine reconnaissance amphibious capabilities as well as train them for events to occur later in the exercise. Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral training exercise where U.S. and Japanese service members train together and share techniques, tactics and procedures to improve their combined operational capabilities.
