Japan Ground Self-Defense Force soldiers Sgt. First Class Hiroshi Kozono, front, and 2nd Lt. Yuichi Umeda, back, with the Western Army Infantry Regiment, transport a simulated casualty into a MV-22 Osprey during a cherry picker training event as part of Exercise Iron Fist, aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Feb. 9, 2017. During cherry picker training, the simulated casualties are transported from a MV-22 Osprey, into a Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement, and then to a Shock Trauma Platoon that is set up just minutes away from the landing site to be treated. Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral training exercise where U.S. and Japanese service members train together and share techniques, tactics and procedures to improve their combined operational capabilities.
