COLUMBIA, Mo. (November 15, 2016) – The parents of Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Midshipman 1st Class Austin Hein, from Bunceton, Mo., remove tape from his Ensign rank sleeve stripes during a commissioning ceremony at the University of Missouri here, Nov. 15. Hein selected USS Sampson (DDG 102) during Surface Warfare Officer Fall Ship Selections. He was also the first midshipman to be selected by a commanding officer when the Sampson’s selected Hein to be part of Sampson’s wardroom. Chief of Naval Personnel (CNP) PERS-41 is now currently the opportunity for commanding officers of surface ships also select midshipmen to be part of their wardrooms. (U. S.
