Newly pinned Chief Petty Officer James Botting is piped aboard as a chief petty officer for the first time as fellow chiefs render honors in the hangar bay aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan. After receiving their gold anchors and combination covers, 22 new chief petty officers were welcomed into the Ronald Reagan Chief Petty Officer’s Mess. Ronald Reagan was granted permission to pin their new chiefs a day later than the traditional date of Sept. 16 so that family members of the new chiefs could attend the pinning ceremony. This is the first time in two years that Ronald Reagan's new chiefs will be pinned while the ship is moored pierside in its homeport of San Diego. (Navy photo/Petty Officer 3rd Class Shawn J.
