ATLANTIC OCEAN (March 8, 2017)
Marines with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) practice rear elbow strikes during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program held in the hangar bay aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) March 8, 2017. The Marines train in hand-to-hand combat each evening as part of their course of instruction to stay battlefield-ready and to earn their next-level belts, which symbolizes a Marine’s proficiency in MCMAP. The 24th MEU is currently deployed with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
