Navy Capt. Bryan Schumacher, the 1st Marine Division (Forward) surgeon, from Kansas City, Mo., and Navy Cmdr. Ruchira Densert, the 1st MarDiv (Fwd) deputy surgeon, from Portland, Ore., received their Fleet Marine Force qualification pins, Sept. 20, while deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. To receive the FMF qualification, the officers were tested in many different areas, such as their knowledge of Marine Corps history, weapons handling and firing, land navigation and physical fitness. They conducted the same courses of fire Marines undergo before a deployment, completed a six-mile conditioning hike with full gear, passed a Marine Corps physical fitness test, and successfully passed written and oral examinations. “By earning this pin, I feel I am giving back to the Marines of 1st Marine Division, who have truly taken care of me,” said Schumacher. “I hope it will show the level of dedication and commitment I have toward my fellow Marines.” Outboard, Brig. Gen. Joseph Osterman, commanding general, 1st Mar Div. (Fwd) and Sgt. Maj. Phillip Fascetti, sergeant major, 1st MarDiv (Fwd), presented the qualifications to the officers.
