170319-N-XT039-058 PHILIPPINE SEA (March 19, 2017) Reconnaisance Marines, assigned to the Maritime Raid Force (MRF) of the 31st Marine Expestionary Unit (MEU), place a rotor on a combat rubber raiding craft (CRRC) on the flight deck of amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) in preparation for a helo cast exercise. A helo cast is a method used to insert reconnaisance and surveillance teams for amphibious reconnaisasnce missions requiring small boat operations. Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, with embarked 31st MEU is on a routine patrol, operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance warfighting readiness and posture forward as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
