Iowa Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer 5 Marty Hupp, of Grimes, Iowa, sorts through photographs from her 40-year military career in light of her upcoming retirement. Hupp, a senior human resources technician for the personnel section at Joint Forces Headquarters, in Johnston, Iowa, is one of just three remaining Soldiers in the Iowa National Guard who originally joined the Women’s Army Corps, a separate branch of service for females created during World War II and disbanded in 1978. As the only female chief warrant officer five currently serving in the Iowa National Guard, Hupp has become a natural mentor and inspiration for younger female Soldiers. In 2016, Hupp helped organize the first Iowa National Guard Women’s Leadership Summit; she said she plans to stay active providing networking and support channels for females in the Guard post-retirement.
