Iowa Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer 5 Marty Hupp, of Grimes, Iowa, sorts through photographs from her 40-year military career in light of her upcoming retirement. Hupp, a senior human resources technician for the personnel section at Joint Forces Headquarters, in Johnston, Iowa, is one of just three remaining Soldiers in the Iowa National Guard who originally joined the Women’s Army Corps, a separate branch of service for females created during World War II and disbanded in 1978. Hupp first started her career as a civilian intern working at the Audubon, Iowa, armory during high school. When she decided to join the Iowa Army National Guard in 1977, the process of integrating females into the Army was just beginning. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt. Christie R. Smith)
