SAN DIEGO (March 31, 2017) Chief Personnel Specialist Cory Fortuna, from Bay Shore, N.Y., and Chief Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Electrical) Douglas Bell, from Asheville N.C., cut a cake in commemoration of the Chief Petty Officer's Birthday on the mess deck aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86). Shoup is currently conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests the mission readiness of the strike group's assets through simulated real-world scenarios and their ability to perform as an integrated unit.
