    U.S. Marines with Marine Barracks Washington fold the flag during the memorial service of retired U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Lawrence F. Snowden at the U.S. Marine Memorial Chapel, Quantico, Va., April 8, 2017. Snowden retired in 1979 after nearly 40 years of service, fought in engagements during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. He passed away Feb. 18, 2017. He was prominently known after retirement for organizing joint "Reunion of Honor" missions which is an opportunity for Japanese and U.S. veterans and their families, dignitaries, leaders and service members from both nations to come together to remember the Battle of Iwo Jima.
