PACIFIC OCEAN – Cpl. Marquis Fulghum, a mortarman with Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, conducts weapons maintenance aboard USS America (LHA 6), May 7, 2017. Proper weapons maintenance is critical to the MEU’s mission because every Marine is a rifleman and may be sent to provide embassy reinforcements in any corner of the world should a situation deteriorate beyond the capabilities of a regional security officer has at their disposal, in order to add an extra layer to their security by providing additional capabilities.
