Members of the mortar platoon of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, practice mortar handling and firing at Graffenwoehr Training Area, Germany on May 25th, 2017. Embracing the Army's “train as you fight” initiative is very important for these soldiers as they participate in the training stage of their emergency deployment readiness exercise. 2-12 Inf. Soldiers on this deployment have been tested on speed of assembly and battlefield effectiveness, among other things, and the unit deployed from Fort Carson, Colo., to Germany with only two weeks advance notice.
