170614-N-BK384-394 PACIFIC OCEAN (June 14, 2017) Aviation Boatswain Mate Handling Seaman Ryan Sharland, a native of Newport Beach, California, removes the chains from a AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 161 (reinforced) on the flight deck of the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22) during Certification Exercise (CERTEX). San Diego is currently underway conducting CERTEX as part of the third and final phase of qualifications for their upcoming deployment. The America Amphibious Ready Group is comprised of more than 1,800 Sailors and 2,600 Marines assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), the amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52), and San Diego.
