PACIFIC OCEAN (July 10, 2017) Aviation Boatswain Mate (Handling) 3rd Class Esmerelda Hernandez, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, assigned to the air department onboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22) directs the UH-1Y Venom, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (reinforced) 161 on the ship’s flight deck. San Diego is embarked on a scheduled deployment as part of the America Amphibious Ready Group, which is comprised of more than 1,800 Sailors and 2,600 Marines assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), the amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52), and San Diego.
