Lavon J. Vance, the Visiting Aircraft Line supervisor for Cherry Point’s Airfield Operations Department, holds the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal he received Dec. 17, 2010, for his exceptional leadership during the 2010 air show “Semper Fi over the Carolina Sky.” Vance, a retired gunnery sergeant, once served as a crew chief for Marine Transport Squadron 1, and now leads eight Marines and 18 civilians in his current position at the Airfield Operations Department.
