FRESHWATER BEACH, Australia (July 19, 2017) An amphibious assault vehicle (AAV) assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) (31st MEU) roves the beach as Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) 9, assigned to Naval Beach Unit (NBU) 7, launches from the beach to return to the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as part of a combined amphibious assault exercise during Talisman Saber 17. Talisman Saber is a biennial U.S. and Australia bilateral exercise held off the coast of Australia meant to achieve interoperability and strengthen the U.S. - Australia alliance.
