Army Sgt. Gregory Bowling, a native of San Antonio, Texas, that is currently assigned to U.S. Pacific Command at Camp Smith, Hawaii, watches as Washington Redskins cornerback, DeAngelo Hall holds up the Most Valuable Player Trophy that he just won during the National League Football 2011 Pro Bowl held at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, Jan 30.
Bowling had the honor of being on the stage because he was PACOM's Community Service Military Person of the Year. This is the 31st time that the event was held in Hawaii, where it was held for 30 years straight until last year when it was held in Miami, Fla., in an effort to renew interest in the game. That decision was met with much debate and criticism by fans and players and the game was brought back to Hawaii this year. Hawaii is home to many U.S. military and their families, and many of those individuals were involved in the setup of the event. Service members volunteered to help with the stage crew, team color guardsmen, overall setup in addition to supporting the military color guard and a flyover conducted by the U.S. coast Guard.
