Maj. Gen. Eddy M. Spurgin, commanding general the 36th Infantry Division and commander of U.S. Division-South, hands out a coin to Air Force Staff Sgt. Alicia Chavez after a re-enlistment ceremony Jan. 29. Chavez, a 26-year-old Owatonna, Minn., native, is a member of the Basrah Operations Center Military Transition Team who deployed to Iraq for Operation New Dawn from the 10th Medical Group, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. She is a veteran of seven years who signed up for another five. Spurgin said the ceremony was unique because it is the first time he has ever re-enlisted a member of the Air Force.
