Michelle Mendoza, an optometrist assigned to the Naval Hospital, Twentynine Palms, Calif., calibrates a phoropter which will be used to determine and individual’s eyeglass prescription during Smoky Mountain Medical Innovative Readiness Training in Hayesville, North Carolina Aug. 1, 2017. Smoky Mountain Medical IRT is a civil-military program which builds mutually beneficial partnerships between U.S. communities and the Department of Defense to meet training and readiness requirements for active, reserve and National Guard service members and units while addressing public and societal needs.
