U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Sean A. Flores, a 20-year-old native of Bronx, N.Y., crawls through the mud during the Crucible at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. Flores is with Platoon 2053, Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, and graduated July 14, 2017. “I wanted to join the Marine Corps because I wanted to better my life and challenge my life,” said Flores. “This is a better life for me and there is nothing more exciting than the life of a Marine.” Approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 49 percent of male recruits and 100 percent of female recruits in the Marine Corps. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Joseph Jacob)
