Three of the four surviving veterans of the U.S. Navy B-1 Band gathered for a special reunion at the National Museum of the United States Navy to commemorate the 75th anniversary of their enlistment. Veterans Simeon Holloway, Calvin Morrow, and Jewitt L. White joined author Alex Albright to discuss his book, The Forgotten First: B-1 and the Integration of Modern Navy, the band’s formation and significance. The U.S. Navy B-1 Band was the first group of African Americans to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II in non-servile rans or positions. The National Museum of the United States Navy is the only Navy museum to present an overview of U.S. naval history 1775 to the present.
