U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Bill Flippo (center) from Winfield, Kan., discusses how to check for improvised explosive devices (IED) with Ethiopian national defense force service members during recent training in Hurso, Ethiopia. Flippo is deployed with Alpha Company of the 1/16th Infantry and is an instructor of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa's "Train the Trainer" course. The skills learned during this training course teach the students how to train others in their nation's military, increasing their nation's capability to protect its borders and ports. The five phases of training include soldier skills, land navigation, basic rifle marksmanship, the law of war, and finally, squad and company operations. Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa is a unit of U.S. Central Command. The organization's mission is to prevent conflict, promote regional stability and protect coalition interests.
