MOUNT BARTLE FRERE, Australia – Cpl. Jia Qiang Zhan, a soldier from The Chinese People’s Liberation Army, builds a fire for his group after hiking 7.5 kilometers to the top of Queensland’s highest peak during Exercise Kowari 2017 Aug. 28, 2017. The U.S. Marines and soldiers, along with soldiers from the Australian Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, stopped 500 meters short of the summit to rest around the warmth of a camp fire. Kowari is an annual adventure training activity held in Australia to reinforce trilateral military relationships, trust and co-operation between Australia, China and the United States.
