VANUATU (Sept. 15, 2017) Cmdr. John Ryan, commanding officer of the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47), speaks to guests during a ship tour, while anchored off the coast of Vanuatu. Rushmore is deployed in support of the Oceana Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI), a secretary of defense program leveraging Department of Defense assets transiting the region to increase the Coast Guard’s maritime domain awareness, ultimately supporting its maritime law enforcement operations in Oceania.
