VANUATU (Sept. 15, 2017) Lt. j.g. Dierdre Leary, from Holden, Massachusetts, photographs a group touring the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD 47), while anchored off the coast of Vanuatu. Rushmore is deployed in support of the Oceana Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI), a secretary of defense program leveraging Department of Defense assets transiting the region to increase the Coast Guard’s maritime domain awareness, ultimately supporting its maritime law enforcement operations in Oceania.
