Engines covers are open to service a C-5M Super Galaxy parked inside a hangar for maintenance, Sep. 22, 2017, Travis Air Force Base, Calif. The newer General Electric CF6 high-bypass turbofan engines provide a 22 percent increase in thrust over the previous engines giving the C-5 a 30 percent shorter takeoff distance, a 58 percent faster climb rate while carrying 380 tons up to 520 miles per hour.
