Chief petty officers aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island celebrated the 118th birthday of the United States Navy Chief Petty Officer rate. The Navy celebrates this on April 1 of every year. The ship is deployed as part of USS Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, which deployed ahead of its original schedule in order to relieve units from the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group in the Mediterranean Sea.
