Vice Adm. Mary Jackson, commander of Navy Installations Command (CNIC), speaks during the City of Alexandria's 2017 Veterans Appreciation event held in the Market Square. Alexandria Mayor Allison Silberberg opened the annual ceremony, and City Manager Mark Jinks introduced Jackson as the keynote speaker to a large audience honoring city employee veterans.
"Veteran's Day is a day to honor our veterans, it's a day to honor those who answered our nation's call to serve," said Jackson. "The city of Alexandria is no stranger when it comes to service, with veterans making up approximately 12 percent of the city's population. Alexandria is indeed home to many honorable men and women who have worn or continue to wear the cloth of our nation. Today we are in the company of those honorable men and women."
