Fort Benning Soldiers and civilians observe the German-Italian Memorial Day Ceremony Nov. 15 at the Fort Benning Cemetery. Detlev Runger, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany to Atlanta gave remarks. The observance honored 44 German and seven Italian World War II soldiers who were buried in the post cemetery. These soldiers were incarcerated here as prisoners of war during World War II between 1943 and 1946. The holiday is observed at all U.S. military installations where World War II prisoners of war from Italy and Germany are buried. (Photo by Patrick A. Albright/MCoE PAO Photographer)
