    II Marine Expeditionary Force

A Marine with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment uses C-4 to cut glass for a shaped charge at a demolition range during a deployment for training exercise at Fort A.P. Hill, Va., Dec. 2, 2017. C-4 is a stable and insensitive plastic explosive that requires a shockwave for detonation; it cannot be detonated solely by heat. The fire heats that area of glass and submerging the bottle in cold water will crack the glass. The range consisted of the Marines preparing and detonating field expedient Bangalore torpedoes, cratering and shaped charges. The Marines are conducting the DFT to maintain proficiency at the squad, platoon, company, and battalion-level of warfighting in preparation for an upcoming deployment to Japan.
