NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BAHRAIN (Dec. 13, 2017) - Naval Amphibious Force, Task Force 51/5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade's Capt. Andrew Macon carries Sgt. Nicholas Smith on the new Naval Support Activity Bahrain softball field during their annual Combat Fitness Test's maneuver-under-fire portion of the event. Regardless of age or rank Marines are required to conduct two physical fitness tests annually - the CFT and a physical fitness test. The CFT is intended to keep Marines ready for the physical rigors of contemporary combat operations and is designed to simulate many of the tasks that a Marine in a combat zone should be able to perform. The CFT consists of the following: An 880 yard run in boots and pants, a 30-pound ammunition can lift overhead from shoulder height repeatedly for two minutes and a maneuver-under-fire event (300-yard shuttle run in which Marines are paired up by size and perform a series of combat-related tasks).
