Mario Maldonado, explosive ordnance disposal team leader, 1st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group, stands at the position of attention as Maj. James Shelstad, company commander, 1st EOD Co., 7th ESB, CLR-1, 1st MLG, 43, from Canby, Ore., pins a Purple Heart Medal to his uniform at Camp Pendleton, Calif., May 18. Maldonado received the award for wounds received while deployed to Afghanistan. Maldonado was wounded from an improvised explosive device blast, but recovered and finished out his deployment.
