CANOVANAS, Puerto Rico – Chris Akios and Edgar Garcia of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Task Force Power Restoration’s National Environmental Policy Act and Compliance Team, or NEPA team, pauses after informing contractors of appropriate road access through forestry areas, with emphasis on avoidance and minimization of impacts Feb. 7 in the Canovanas forest area. The NEPA Environmental Team has five experienced Regulatory Project Managers to conduct environmental compliance assessments. They also develop environmental sensitivity index maps, to aid all personnel to be aware and cognizant of environmental conditions in Puerto Rico. Akios from the Buffalo District, covers the Ceiba office which is responsible for east side of Puerto Rico. Garcia from the Jacksonville District is the team lead.
