PACIFIC OCEAN (March 10, 2018) Seaman Vernon Johnson of deck department performs regularly scheduled maintenance on a vehicle tie-down padeye in the Upper Vehicle Storage of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). Essex is training with the other ships of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) in the Navy’s first ARG SWATT. SWATT is led by Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC), and is designed to increase warfighting proficiency, lethality, and interoperability of participating units.
