    II Marine Expeditionary Force   

    Lance Cpl. Matthew J. Messer, from Brownstown, Mich., a motor vehicle operator with Combat Logistics Battalion 8, 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward), on a combat logistic patrol returning from Forward Operating Base Edinburgh, Afghanistan, May 20, 2011. Two days later while returning to Camp Leatherneck Messer’s truck hit an improvised explosive device, which sent the turret flying through the air with him inside, landing a few feet from the truck. He is currently recovering from surprisingly minor injuries.
