Staff Sgt. Carlos Mercado, a Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team paratrooper, places an aiming post during the 81mm mortar lane of the Day Stakes portion of the 2018 Best Ranger Competition at Fort Benning, Georgia on Apr. 14. Once a member of the team announced “Gun Up” or time elapsed the grader stopped the time and the lane ended.
