African American Soldiers on board the deck of the U.S.S. President Lincoln sometime in 1918. They are wearing life jacket because of the danger of torpedo attack. The troopship carried the 106th Infantry Regiment of the New York National Guard to France in May 1918 as the 27th Division deployed during World War I. The troopship was sunk on May 31, 1918 as it carried wounded Soldiers home.
