Staff Sgt. Carlos Mercado, a Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team paratrooper, prepares to drop into Victory Pond after slapping the coveted Ranger Tab during the Combat Water Survival Assessment portion of the 2018 Best Ranger Competition at Fort Benning, Georgia on Apr. 15. After dropping into the pond, competitors had to swim to shore, pick up a zip line pulley, run to and finally ascend a 75’ tower.
