Staff Sgt. Sisamone Sirivong of the 824th Quartermaster Company, Detachment 10, ensures that the parachute is properly hooked to the static line. The 824th is an Airborne Rigger Detachment of the 824th Quartermaster Company, Heavy Air Supply, out of Fort Bragg, N.C. The 824th’s mission is an ongoing rigging of airdrops to theater, providing “supply from the sky.” Many of the bases are in austere locations of Afghanistan with limited and primitive roads and require supplies to be airdropped. Airdrops reduce the number of supply convoys, saving time and more importantly saving lives by reducing roadside bomb attacks. The 824th rigs container delivery systems, from an undisclosed location in southwest Asia and Air Force C-17 planes drop them where needed.
