Pittsburgh native Cpl. Zachary Beamer, an assaultman with the Personal Security Detachment of 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, was meritoriously promoted to the rank of corporal for his initiative and performance during his seven-month deployment. During his time with the PSD, Beamer survived an Improvised Explosive Device blast, taking shrapnel to his left arm and torso.
