    Lt. Gen. R. Steven Whitcomb, Third Army/ U.S. Army Central commanding general, and Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Verbeke, 53rd Transportation Battalion command sergeant major, add the Global War on Terrorism battle streamer to the 53rd Transportation Battalion flag.The 53rd Transportation Battalion cased it colors in a ceremony Monday in front of the Third Army Headquarters at Fort McPherson. The unit will relocate to fall under the 7th Sustainment Brigade at Fort Eustis, Va. The 53rd Transportation Battalion arrived at Fort McPherson Oct. 29, 1999 and its mission was to provide theater level movement control for Third Army. In that capacity, the 53rd Transportation Battalion proved itself with support during various exercises such as Bright Star in 2001 and Native Atlas and Vigilant Hammer in 2002.The battalion also deployed three times and served as the Coalition Forces Land Component Command's (CFLCC) movement control battalion in Kuwait."It's been a great honor for the 53rd Transportation Battalion to have been a part of Patton's Own, but this move will enable the 53rd to better serve our Army," said Lt. Col. Broc Perkuchin, 53rd Battalion commander before the ceremony.
