180728-N-DM338-0040 KAHUKU TRAINING AREA, Hawaii (July 28, 2018) Senior Airman Marco Hernandez U.S. Air Force survival, evasion, resistance, escape (SERE) specialist uses a Combat Survivor Evader Locator (CSEL) radio to contact a MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter assigned to the “Black Knights” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 4 during a joint personnel recovery exercise at Kahuku Training Area during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, July 18. Lynch and other SERE specialists will be airlifted to USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) to train Navy personnel in reintegration techniques of recovered civilian and military forces. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, and about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans.
