U.S. Air Force Gen. John Hyten, commander of U.S. Strategic Command
(USSTRATCOM), kicks off the 2018 United States Strategic Command
Deterrence Symposium at La Vista Conference Center in La Vista, Neb.,
Aug. 1, 2018. His speech focused on the excellence of deterrence
operations and featured the work of the 162,000 service members around
the globe supporting 21st century strategic deterrence. USSTRATCOM has
global responsibilities assigned through the Unified Command Plan that
include strategic deterrence, nuclear operations, space operations,
joint electromagnetic spectrum operations, global strike, missile
