Nearly 500 Soldiers assigned to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, took part in Iron Focus 18.2 at Fort Bliss, Texas August 5-7, 2018. The troopers were given less than 48 hours notice prior to departing Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as part of an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise, or EDRE. Following a night jump into McGregor Training Complex, they worked their way to seize objectives held by units of 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.
Iron Focus is a one of the largest exercises conducted on Fort Bliss and surrounding areas as part of the 1st Armored Division Commander's Combat Training Center Certification program. Every echelon of the Brigade is challenged through their ability to conduct offensive, defensive and stability operations against a hybrid threat, as well as being validated on how well they plan, prepare for and execute airspace management, joint fires integration and fires de-confliction. Iron Focus provides the commanding general a realistic platform to assess the readiness of Brigades, ensuring they are fully trained and prepared to fight across multiple domains and through contested areas for future contingency operations. Training and exercises sustain readiness, while reassuring our allies and deterring potential adversaries. (Photo by Spc. Ryan Mercado, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division Public Affairs)
