U.S. Air Force retired Chief Master Sgt. Charles E. Fryer, front center, for a tour of Arnold Air Force Base, lunch and a mentoring session with Arnold Air Force Base’s noncommissioned officers, here, August 23, 2018. Fryer served at Arnold under former Arnold Engineering Development Center Commander Brig. Gen. Jessup D. Lowe in 1969. During the 1960s the commander was authorized an aircraft for his official travel and duties. Because he was previously assigned to the Presidential Wing for five years as the Vice President of the United States’ crew chief he was able to use his connections to quickly procure a new C-130 for the base. During Fryer’s career he served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam, with career spanning almost 30 years. He currently resides in Dechard, Tennessee.
